The projects „ Black Sea Shellfish to Local Market – SHELLFISH” and „ Black Sea Shellfish to Local Market – SHELLFISH – Additional Activities”, generously funded by Innovation Norway, under the EEA and Norway Grants 2014-2021, Programme “SMEs Growth Romania” – Support for Start-ups, have been successfully completed at the end of April 2024. The Shellfish Projects have increased the competitiveness of the Wave Diving & Fishing SRL (WDF), in the blue economy sector in Romania, through value creation and sustainable growth of the business, by developing, implementing and investing in an innovative and green processing facility as well as local products distribution of wild marine resources. The Shellfish projects had the following characteristics:

Projects results
The primary outcome of the combined investment projects SHELLFISH were to increase sustainably the competitiveness of the company, in the blue economy sector in Romania, through value creation and sustainable growth of the business, by developing, implementing and investing in an innovative and green industrial processing facility as well as local distribution of seafood (shellfish) as well as valorise by-products resulting from wet and hard waste streams, during the project implementation (2023-2024) and the subsequent five years (2024-2028).
The following associated outputs have been achieved and will continue after the projects’ end:
Ambitious yet realistic growth in annual turnover, commensurate with the development of the new business opportunity in the processing and distribution of shellfish products and by products.
Net operational profit increased, in lieu of the development of the new business opportunity in the processing and distribution of shellfish products/ by-products.
Job creation gradually with up to 8 new positions, most if not all from the local community in Costinesti and nearby communities.
Development, implementation and investment in one innovative environmentally friendly technology related to the processing line for shellfish.
Annual decrease of CO2 emissions/equivalent due to reduction in fuel for transportation and landfill waste.
Annual decrease of waste (by-products) not being landfilled but valorised as part of the production process, into valuable commodities.
